Vickie Smith

 

 

Vickie Smith, co-owner of Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions, earned a BS in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Lake Superior State University and a MS in Wildlife Science from South Dakota State University. Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions was created in 2007 as a business to assist private land owners, government agencies, and environmental agencies with wildlife and property management. With experience in invasive species (especially phragmites) in southern Michigan, Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions quickly became a business focused on invasive species control throughout Northern Michigan.


 

Nick Kafcas

 

 

Nick Kafcas joined Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions in 2012 as a co-owner. Once he became familiar with job sites and methods for invasive treatment, he became the field crew supervisor and manages jobs in the field and personnel. Nick has a BS in Wildlife Management from Central Michigan University and worked for Wyoming Game and Fish for 4 years before returning to join Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions. In Wyoming, he managed large parcels of land and worked as the contractee through the state agency.

John Schafer

 

 

John Schafer, principle employee, earned an Associate’s Degree in Natural Resource Management and worked for the MI-DNR for over 35 years before retiring and working for Wildlife and Wetlands Solutions. He has extensive experience (with Ernie Kafcas) with phragmites, by conducting the first research on phragmites in MI for the DEQ before they published the landowner guide to treating phragmites. John also has experience with creating waterfowl habitats, native grassland plantings, and farming from managing the St. Clair Flats game area on Harsens Island for 30 years.
